The association has a neuropsychoanalysis center in London which manages the activities of various sections of the organization. It oversees the operations of the International Neuropsychoanalysis Society, the annual congress, and the neuropsychoanalysis journal.

The international society

As a society, NEUROPSA has grown a lot over the years, and is a few months away from holding our 19th annual conference, which is remarkable. This growth has come from the commitment of the members who have continued to contribute to the association regarding participation and research. Over the years, NEUROPSA has created links between scientists and these connections have proven useful to ensuring that the goal that are set would be achieved faster.

As a society, NEUROPSA brings together various interested parties in neuropsychoanalysis who range from philosophers to psychoanalysts to neuroscientists. Some of the members have knowledge from different fields which allows the association to have a significant pool of information which acts as the foundation for their vast research work.

Goals

Understanding of how the mind works and how cognitive and brain processes outside our conscious affect our mental functioning. The association hopes to achieve this on two levels. There is the theoretical stage where scientists will get to see the workings of the brain through representations of experiences which will get done on a clinical basis. Such insights will enable them to understand the processes in psychodynamic therapies.

approach

They believe that they cannot fully answer the questions they’ve asking themselves on the working of the brain by relying on theoretical information solely. As such, they will also embrace neuroscience methods which will help them identify the neural representations of experiences in various levels of the brain. NEUROPSA focuses on a concept, for example, dreams, and investigates the brain processes behind it through the use of systems such as EEG. Then they analyze the data and keep that information for future purposes.

Other activities

Other than research, NEUROPSA also have an interest in education and training, and offers talks on neuropsychoanalysis to shed light on the field to interested people.

The journal

Having a publication in circulation ensures that NEUROPSA’s members are up-to-date on the advancements in neuropsychoanalysis. There are various means by which you can access the journal, and it depends on your membership level. Members above the standard level can access the publication online where they can download the materials.

It is easy to get access to the reading materials as all you need to do is to sign up, and you will get a free copy.

The journal covers advancements from various disciplines, and it is released twice per year through Routledge. In it, you will find reports on psychodynamic neuroscience, clinical experiments on neurological patients as well as analytical treatment. Theoretical articles on ideas in neuropsychoanalysis also feature in the journal and both society members and members of the general public will gain something from the materials inside.

The aim of the journal

NEUROPSA publishes papers on both neurosciences and psychoanalysis. In the beginning, the association reasoned that since both disciplines geared toward getting a deeper understanding of how the mind works, they could publish articles on the two in the same journal.

Other roles of the center

NEUROPSA also brings people from across the globe under one umbrella for easy sharing of information and to enable them to grow as an organization. Regional study groups receive a lot of support from the association.

Location and contacts

There is also an office in Camden, NW London from where NEUROPSA organizes lectures and study sessions. Feel free to drop your queries at the physical location at The Neuropsychoanalysis Centre, 13 Prowse Place, London, NW1 9PN, UK.
