FEBRUARY 2010
► As you must know by now, the next Congress, our 11th, Neuropsychoanalytic Perspectives on Play, will be in Seattle on 23 to 25 July 2010. The booking form is available online and you will see that we have made every effort to keep costs down. Details of a few nearby hotels have been posted on the website, and Halls of Residence have also been reserved for you at great prices ($70 per person or $47.40 per person for double occupancy, no taxes). Go to the congress page and scroll down to accommodation. More details on the Congress can also be found by scrolling down this page.

Call for papers: the deadline is fast approaching - you have only until the end of this month to submit proposals for papers for presentation at the Congress proper. Poster proposals are also welcome. Presentations on empirical work which combines neuropsychological or neurobiological research with psychoanalytic perspectives are of particular interest. Please send your abstract (maximum 250 words for presentations and posters) to admin@neuropsa.org by March 1. There is more information below.

Please forward this on to anyone you think may be interested in submitting an abstract and/or attending the Congress.

► The next New York Lecture will be given by Heather Berlin on Saturday March 6; Click here for more information.

► At last, these NY lectures are now being posted on the web at http://www.viddler.com/. Go to the site and type in neuropsychoanalysis to see what is there already - more are added regularly: here are three recent additions:

Orrin Devinsky: Part I: Limbic Lessons from Epilepsy
Orrin Devinsky: Part 2: Limbic Lessons from Epilepsy
Maggie Zellner: Neural substrates of drive, motivation and cathexis
Stephen Suomi: New insights about attachment in rhesus monkeys
Bruce McEwen: Central Role of the Brain in Stress and Adaptation

► Some of you will be interested in checking this out: on February 10 the American Psychiatric Association (APA) released the proposed draft diagnostic criteria for DSM-5 on its Website www.dsm5.org. The draft criteria represent content changes under consideration. The information posted on the Website includes the proposed criteria, the rationale, the supporting research, and DSM-IV content as a comparison. The proposed diagnostic criteria will be available on the Website www.dsm5.org, for public comment until April 20, 2010. APA is inviting health professionals, consumers of mental health services, and family members to visit the site to review and comment on the draft criteria.

► You will have received recently dues renewal requests for the Society and the combined membership with the journal. Thanks for processing these quickly. The combined Society and journal offer has been widely taken up and we hope that this will continue. You can renew now by clicking here.

► The Arnold Pfeffer Prize for 2009 has been awarded to Giacomo Rizzolatti and Vittoria Gallese for their work on mirror neurons. Click here to listen to VS Ramachandran talk about them and more on TED.

► The Clifford Yorke Prize: If you would like to nominate someone else, or yourself, for the 2010-11 Clifford Yorke Prize awarded yearly to young researchers in the field of neuropsychoanalysis, please send a paragraph on why you recommend this person, with one or two of their papers, and a CV (if possible) to admin@neuropsa.org for the attention of the Chair of the CYP Committee.

► Members can purchase our journal, Neuropsychoanalysis, together with membership of the Society for £60 or about $90. Society membership is still available without the journal at the same price of £26 (about $40). Standard and combined membership will run from January to December - dues renewal letters are going out this month.

► As always, Neuropsychoanalysis is keen to consider a wide range of new material such as clinical reports, brief articles and research reports as well as original articles. Submit to Pat.Porter@neuropsa.org. Click here for more details and here for the "notes to authors".

► The next Newsletter will be in April/May. If you would like anything to be included, just let us know.

WEBSITE - MEDIA COVERAGE PAGE

If you are aware of articles that should be included for 2009, or any other work of particular interest to neuropsychoanalysts, please do email copies or details to admin@neuropsa.org and we will be pleased to add them.

BRIEF CLINICAL REPORTS AND ARTICLES

We would like to remind you that the journal has a section entitled Brief Clinical Reports. Please send in neurological case reports (around 2500 words) to pat.porter@neuropsa.org for editorial consideration. There is also a section entitled Brief Articles and we encourage submissions of these to the journal as well (under 5000 words). Please refer to the Notes for Contributors on the journal pages on our website for details of the journal style. Full details will be posted on our website shortly.

MAKING A DONATION

You may like to make a donation in honour of someone, to celebrate someone's accomplishment or contribution, or perhaps in memory of a significant person, or simply to celebrate a birthday. Either way, donations make all the difference and no donation is too small. If you would like to make a donation please go to our website and follow the links.
